Sant Josep, espòs de la Verge

 

En Josep s’acompleix la promesa feta per Déu a una llarga successió de patriarques entre els quals, tal com remarquen les lectures d’avui, destaquen Abraham i David.

Abraham es va posar en camí, renunciant a la seguretat de casa seva, i esperà contra tota esperança confiant que Déu compliria la seva promesa i, malgrat la seva edat avançada, el faria pare d’una multitud de pobles.

David, malgrat els seus pecats i infidelitats, va rebre la promesa incondicional d’un descendent segons el cor de Déu i d’una dinastia per sempre.

En Josep, com la darrera baula d’una llarga cadena, trobem alguna cosa d’Abraham i de David. Com David, el seu Fill serà més gran que ell mateix, i serà Rei per sempre no pas de l’Israel històric, ans d’una multitud de pobles reunida en el nou Poble de Déu.

Com Abraham, Josep rep de Déu una descendència més enllà de tota expectativa humana, i accepta d’embarcar-se en un camí desconegut, deixant-se portar per la iniciativa de Déu.

Senyor, Déu totpoderós, Vós confiàreu a Sant Josep les primícies del misteri de la salvació; concediu a la vostra Església, per intercessió de l’espòs de Maria, de ser fidel custodi d’aquest misteri i de dur-lo a la seva perfecció.
