Els historiadors situen el naixement de l\u2019ap\u00f2stol sant Pau entre els anys 7 i 10 dC. Per commemorar el seu bimil\u00b7lenari, i aprofitant que el 2008 la festa de l\u2019ap\u00f2stol se celebra en diumenge, el Sant Pare ha proclamat un any jubilar especial que t\u00e9 lloc del 28 de juny de 2008 al 29 de juny de 2009.
Els bisbes de Catalunya han volgut afegir-se a aquesta celebraci\u00f3 amb aquesta carta pastoral en la que recorden les arrels paulines de l\u2019Esgl\u00e9sia catalana.
